A.G. Corbett announces charges in ongoing state "bonus" probe

Bonus-Probe1-366x244 As part of an ongoing investigation by Attorney General Tom Corbett's Public Corruption Unit, agents from the Attorney General's Office have filed numerous criminal charges against 12 suspects, including a state representative from Beaver County, a former House Democratic Minority Whip and four current House Democratic staffers. 

Attorney General Corbett said the continuing investigation has uncovered the illegal use of millions of dollars in taxpayers' funds, resources and state employees for political campaign purposes.

"Operation Cave-in" shuts underground meth lab

A total of 23 northwestern PA residents have been charged in connection with "Operation Cave-in," the break-up of a $1 million methamphetamine organization.  Members of the drug ring used a sophisticated underground lab to produce large quantities of meth for distribution and sale in Venango, Mercer and other counties across the region.

Expanded gun violence education program launched

A new gun violence education program, created by the Office of Attorney General, was launched recently in Lancaster.  Called "Think Again: Gun Violence and Straw Purchasing," the program is designed to educate teens and adults about the dangers of gun violence and the effects of straw purchasing - buying weapons for criminals.

Consumers warned about aggressive financial scams

Attorney General Tom Corbett cautioned Pennsylvania consumers to be wary of aggressive financial scams, including scam artists pretending to be contacting family members on behalf of relatives who have been injured or arrested. Consumers have also been targeted by a growing number of counterfeit check, sweepstakes and long-distance telephone scams.

International puppy scams target PA consumers

Pennsylvania consumers are being urged to be wary of scam artists using the Internet to offer puppies to Americans interested in purchasing or 'rescuing' them.  "Using convincing ads or sympathetic stories, these scam artists are trying to convince consumers to send them money for non-existent dogs," Corbett said.

Registered sex-offender, retired pastor and teacher included in recent Internet predator arrests

A wave of recent arrests by the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit include a registered sex-offender from Floridaa retired pastor from the Allentown area, a heating and air conditioning technician from the Philadelphia area and a science teacher from suburban Pittsburgh. Since January of 2005, the Child Predator Unit has arrested 164 Internet predators from across Pennsylvania and several other states.

Abbott Labs pays $6.95 million in drug pricing case

Attorney General Tom Corbett has reached a $6.95 million settlement with Illinois-based Abbott Labs, which had been accused of artificially inflating the price of drugs purchased by state drug programs. The money is being returned to PA's Medicaid program, the PACE prescription program for seniors and other state-funded programs.
