$12 million toy safety agreement with Mattel & Fisher-Price

TWC-Mattel-366x244Pennsylvania, along with 38 other states, have reached a consumer protection agreement with Mattel and Fisher-Price concerning children's toys that were recalled because they allegedly contained excessive levels of lead.

"Toy-makers have an obligation to parents and other consumers to ensure that their products will not threaten the health of children," Attorney General Tom Corbett said. "This agreement is a step in the right direction, requiring Mattel and Fisher-Price to take immediate action to reduce children's exposure to lead and make their products safer for young users."

"Operation Cave-in" shuts underground meth lab

A total of 23 northwestern PA residents have been charged in connection with "Operation Cave-in," the break-up of a $1 million methamphetamine organization.  Members of the drug ring used a sophisticated underground lab to produce large quantities of meth for distribution and sale in Venango, Mercer and other counties across the region.

Expanded gun violence education program launched

A new gun violence education program, created by the Office of Attorney General, was launched recently in Lancaster.  Called "Think Again: Gun Violence and Straw Purchasing," the program is designed to educate teens and adults about the dangers of gun violence and the effects of straw purchasing - buying weapons for criminals.

Timeshare sales trigger consumers protection suit

Attorney General Tom Corbett says more than 5,700 Pennsylvania residents were charged as much as $45,000 for timeshares and travel packages from Florida-based "Bluegreen Corporation" that violated Pennsylvania's Consumer Protection Law, the Real Estate Licensing and Registration Act, the Telemarketer Registration Act and other consumer protection regulations.
